If you don't want to draw Beep wearing his hat and/or jacket, that's cool. That's a t-shirt he's got on underneath.
ETA: Ugh didn't realize the sketch gets so washed out on bright monitors. I'll keep that in mind for future BSC stuff.
Name: Demarcus "Beep" Williams
Age: 26
Hometown: Sunyshore City, Sinnoh
Personality: Beep is an outgoing guy, known for being confident and optimistic, with a goofy sense of humor that most people find endearing. He of course has his down moments, but he tries not to let them show--he's got to be the 'big brother' who keeps everyone else together, after all. He has a great love of music and dancing; when he's not doing pokemon things, he can usually be found cranking up the beats somewhere and getting down to it. Beep's friends often call him a music dork, and he hasn't exactly disagreed.
How and why he decided to go into Pokemon battling is something of a mystery, but he greatly enjoys it. At first glance, one would expect someone like him--just tall enough to potentially be frightening to smaller people--to go for big, tough pokemon. Instead, he has a fondness for the small(ish) and cute, something many of his past opponents have mistakenly seen as weakness. Beep thinks quickly on his feet, and he prefers winning through wit rather than force.
Beep's family is quite supportive of his chosen career in pokemon. Beep himself, however, is not so fond of how much traveling it involves. He dislikes being away from his family and friends for extended periods, but he just can't resist when his little sister asks him to win a tournament for her.
History: Beep's family immigrated to Sinnoh he was very young. He did not take the move well and withdrew from the world, becoming extremely attached to the pets they had brought with them, some small
non-pokemon birds. When he finally started to open up to the local kids, he talked non-stop about these birds and the cute beeping noises they made; in return, the kids called him 'Beep', and the name stuck. Only his gramma calls him by his given name nowadays.
Beep started in on the whole pokemon thing later in life than most. When he was 17, he obtained his first pokemon, a Happiny he named Sema. It was Sema who instilled in him a fondness of normal-type pokemon and pokemon battling. It wasn't long before he had assembled his team and was working his way through the Sinnoh gyms. He made it through all eight gyms, but never took the final step to challenge the Elite Four. His reasoning was that he knew his team was not yet strong enough; others were convinced he was just too scared to face the Four. Whichever the case, Beep returned home, where he continued training his pokemon. He would enter any local battle tournament he could, trying to fine-tune his team. One day, he proclaimed they were ready to challenge the Elite Four, and was about to leave to attempt this feat when his grandmother fell ill. Beep decided to stay home to help take care of her--he ended up staying to two years.
She got better (the tough old bird), and Beep was itching to get back on the battle circuit again and expand his team's skills in other areas as well. His pokemon were also tired of not doing much and had taken to practicing on their own. Beep's mother's garden was the unfortunate target of these practices, and it was she who, while outdoors trying to protect her flowers from the bored pokemon, first saw giant blimps in the sky advertising a new tournament. Beep was told to participate or spend the next six months fixing the back yard.
Beep decided to say goodbye to his family, friends, and his breloom Thrush (who seemed to want to fix the yard rather than battle), and off he went to this so-called Big Sky Carnival.
Pokemon #1:Name: Sema
Species: Chansey
Sex: female
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: friendly
Battle style: Intelligent but strong. She prefers to search for openings to land as few heavy-hitting moves as possible to finish her opponent.
Favored moves: Solarbeam, Swagger, Zen Headbutt, Pound
Other known moves: Attract, Take Down, Fling, Light Screen
Athletic stat: stamina
Contest stat: tough
Other info: As her species tends to be, Sema is driven to take care of others...though 'taking care' of them doesn't just mean healing their wounds. Sema is proud of her battling strengths and smarts, which take many opponents by surprise. When not battling, she enjoys joining Beep in his daily activities, including dancing (bet you've never seen a raving chansey before) and karaoke (...okay, so Beep doesn't do that, but Sema sure does). She is very close to Lio, and often battles with him during doubles.
Sema never carries eggs in her pouch, as chansey usually do, though she is still fascinated by egg-shaped objects. Instead, she uses it to hold whatever she needs or wants, as well as things Beep would otherwise have accidentally left behind somewhere. Like his wallet.
Pokemon #2:Name: Lio
Species: Togekiss
Sex: male
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: cute
Battle style: Relies heavily on speed and his ability to fly out of range. Will unleash attacks seemingly out of nowhere. If that fails, he will try to flinch or status change his opponent to buy time.
Favored moves: Extremespeed, Aura Sphere, Flash, Extrasensory
Other known moves: Air Slash, Sky Attack, Thunder Wave, Swift
Athletic stat: speed
Contest stat: cool
Other info: Lio was an accidental addition to Beep's team. Sema picked up an egg one day, actually stuck it in her pouch, and soon after, a little togepi chick hatched. Beep was a bit befuddled with what to do about this situation, but as togepi was a normal-type (and very cute), Beep decided to keep him. Lio looked to Sema as his mother, and the two have been inseparable ever since.
Like most togekiss, Lio is a rather calm, happy pokemon, but he's at the front of Beep's lineup for a reason.
Lio has never been known to speak (as pokemon speak, anyway), though he will make soft sounds such as cooing, purring, or trilling.
Pokemon #3:Name: Mesut
Species: Chingling
Sex: male
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Napoleon complex
Battle style: Likes to make a scene. Tends to be a spiteful jerk.
Favored moves: Astonish, Confusion, Taunt, Hidden Power
Other known moves: Growl, Uproar, Rollout, Shadow Ball
Athletic stat: jump
Contest stat: smart
Other info: Mesut is the second pokemon Beep obtained, in the form of a gift from his younger sister. Despite Mesut's tiny stature, he is incredibly aggressive during battles, fearlessly tackling opponents many times his size (given how small he is, pretty much any opponent is many times his size). He's very much a 'one-person pokemon', preferring Beep over everyone else, including other pokemon. He likes to hide in Beep's pocket and send himself into battles if Beep hesitates on choosing who to send in next.
He's in Beep's Big Sky Carnival team only because Beep's first choice, the furret Champion, had his pokeball mysterious replaced by Mesut's the night before Beep left. Of course this was only realized
after Beep had registered for the tournament. No one is pointing fingers, for fear of having them bitten off by the one they'd be pointing their fingers at.
you know, i would be kinda curious to see what the furret looks like....
Unfortunately furret isn't anything exciting in my style. Mostly just a...giant ferret. Heh. I'll see if I can get off my lazy butt and scan some doodles I did a while back though.
